CAP’s mentorship programs are designed to align with each academic semester so that goals can correspond with academic work. Every CAP student is invited to participate.

Our Professional Mentorship Program pairs working professionals with students to provide a rich and valuable opportunity for professionals to share their skills and experiences to demystify the transition from academic to professional practice.

We ask our mentors to keep an eye on your inbox for a mentorship request. Once received, update your profile to ensure students can find your overlapping passion areas more easily.

Professional Mentor Responsibilities:
- Act as an advisor and coach: provide guidance, share experience, explain processes, give feedback
- Share experiences: visit job sites, discuss research or community work, attend lectures
- Offer resources and recommendations: suggest books, precedents, tutorials and/or podcasts that will assist students in their personal growth
- Cheerlead: provide encouragement in trying new things, celebrate successes, help process missteps and mistakes
- Listen and ask: don’t provide all the answers, ask questions, accept that failure is essential to learning

Time Commitment can be as little as 1 hour per month.

Let’s show future Lynx why CU Denver is the place to learn, grow, and succeed!

Answer these questions:

How has attending CU Denver made a difference in your life? What were your goals at CU Denver, and how has your life been changed by attending? If you could provide one bit of advice, what would you say? Please remain generic so that we can use your video for multiple students. (E.g., What I enjoyed the most during my time at CU Denver). Please feel free to use your preferred language to personalize this connection.

Please let us know if you have any questions, and don't forget to report your volunteer hours!

Recording Tips:You can record directly to ThankView on your desktop or mobile device.Make sure to film horizontally so you fill the frame. When recording with a phone or tablet, use a tripod or prop it up with something like books for stability. Try not to hold it.Keep your device close for good sound quality but far enough away that you are the focus. Try 3-4 feet.Consider shooting in a location your recipients may recognize.Choose a location that provides balanced lighting. Try to find a room that has a lot of natural light.Record with the window facing you so you benefit from the natural light. If the window is behind you, you will appear shadowed.Choose a flattering angle for your recording. Shooting from below is not usually a person's best angle.Avoid echo chambers. Often, sparse offices or conference rooms with glass walls can create a lot of echoes.Avoid windy locations or areas with a lot of foot or vehicle traffic, as your device's mic may pick up noise. Be yourself and have fun!
