Opportunities From: CU Denver Volunteers

Volunteer: Emergency Preparedness Volunteer Opportunities – 2026 Trainings

We are excited to extend emergency training opportunities to our loyal CU Denver alumni who volunteer on campus and in their own communities. Whether you’re supporting university events, mentoring students, serving on a board, or simply showing up as a trusted community member, we want to help you be as prepared and confident as possible.

Help us help you — and empower yourself wherever you are. These trainings are designed to equip you with real-world tools you can use both on and off campus, so you feel ready to step in, stay calm, and contribute when it matters most. Together, we can build a safer, more prepared CU Denver and beyond.

Strengthen campus safety and community resilience by participating in and supporting emergency preparedness trainings offered through the Auraria Campus Emergency Management and Police Department. These in-person preparedness experiences provide practical, hands-on skills that empower volunteers to respond confidently in emergency situations.

All trainings take place at the Emergency Operations Center, 1200 7th Street, Denver.

For detailed training descriptions, dates, and times, visit: https://aurariacampus.edu/services-departments/emergency-preparedness/training

Important Notes:

Don’t forget to respond to this volunteer opportunity in the CU Denver volunteer platform so you can track your volunteer hours when you attend a training and help us capture the impact of your involvement.

The CPR/AED + First Aid course is the only training that requires a fee. The cost for this class is $50.

If you are interested in the CPR course, please contact alumni@ucdenver.edu before registering, as we will cover the cost for any CU Denver alumni who signs up.

Volunteer: How CU Denver Shaped You

Please record yourself answering the questions below in a few sentences.

Please use the link below to record your video: Click here!

1. Please introduce yourself. Include your name, current job title, location, and your major and graduation year at CU Denver.

2. Can you share your favorite memory from your time at CU Denver?

3. How do you feel your CU Denver degree helped you get to where you are today?

4. What advice or welcoming words would you say to an incoming CU Denver student?

Tips for recording on your phone or laptop

Framing Tips: Place the camera at eye level – use a tripod, a stack of books, or a stand. Center yourself in the frame with a little space above your head. Sit or stand about 2–4 feet away from the camera. Make sure your background is clean and not too distracting.

Lighting Tips: Face a window for natural light. Never have the window behind you. If recording at night, use a lamp or ring light in front of you, slightly above eye level. Avoid strong light from above or below – it creates shadows.

Audio Tips: Record in a quiet room with minimal background noise. Turn off loud fans, TVs, or appliances. Make sure the microphone on your device is not covered. Recording: Take a deep breath and relax before you hit record. Look at the camera lens, not the screen, to make eye contact. Speak clearly and don’t worry about being perfect—just be yourself!

Recording Tips:You can record directly to ThankView on your desktop or mobile device.Make sure to film horizontally so you fill the frame. When recording with a phone or tablet, use a tripod or prop it up with something like books for stability. Try not to hold it.Keep your device close for good sound quality but far enough away that you are the focus. Try 3-4 feet.Consider shooting in a location your recipients may recognize.Choose a location that provides balanced lighting. Try to find a room that has a lot of natural light.Record with the window facing you so you benefit from the natural light. If the window is behind you, you will appear shadowed.Choose a flattering angle for your recording. Shooting from below is not usually a person's best angle.Avoid echo chambers. Often, sparse offices or conference rooms with glass walls can create a lot of echoes.Avoid windy locations or areas with a lot of foot or vehicle traffic, as your device's mic may pick up noise. Be yourself and have fun!
